Penstemon is a large group of US native perennials. These varieties are all cultivars and have interesting traits such as purple foliage and larger flowers. All are very easy to grow and prefer well drained soils and full sun to part sun and will bloom early to mid summer.
'Blackbeard' has very dark eggplant purple foliage that looks amazing in the garden. In early to mid summer Lilac purple flowers with white flaring tubes in long upright stems bloom. Grows 28-34" x 24"
'Midnight Masquerade' is the newest variety that creates a sturdy clump of deep burgundy leaves. Rich lavender purple flowers have pure white interior produced on long stems. A fuller more refined habit. Grows 36-40" x 28-32"
'Onyx and Pearls' has a great combination of dark foliage and soft lavender flowers with white interiors. From afar they look white. Grows to 42" x 42"
'Red Riding Hood' is another species, (schmidel) that has green leaves and bright scarlet flowers, perfect for attracting hummingbirds.
